DAVID SHAFER

BLUFFTON — David L. Shafer, 72, passed away at 12:10 AM on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, in Bluffton at the Mennonite Memorial Home.

David was born on Monday, March 1, 1943, in Lima, to the late Carl D. and Delores M. (Moening) Shafer. His mother survives in Lima. On Saturday, October 15, 1988, he married Denise Cosart who survives in Bluffton.

David was a 1962 graduate of Culver Military Academy. In earlier years, he had served as President of the Bluffton Area Jaycees and had been very involved with Bluffton Family Recreation (BFR). He retired from Triplett Corporation, after 42 years, as its Information Systems Manager. David always looked forward to vacations with Denise, especially their travels throughout the New England states. He also had a passion for understanding new technology and applying what he had learned about it in well thought out, practical ways. David loved spending time with his family, and when with them, almost always found time to play Euchre, Trouble or Frisbee.

David's family would like to extend their heart-felt thanks and gratitude to the entire staff of the Mennonite Memorial Home for the wonderful, loving care they provided him.

He is survived by: sons, Eric (Judy) Shafer Las Vegas, NV and Jeff Shafer, Findlay; step son, Todd (Kelli) Cosart, Harrod; step daughters, Amy (Katie Hartwig) Cosart, Erie, PA and Molly (Mason) Hagemeyer, Divide, CO; grandchildren, Brendan and Corey Shafer, Michaela, Camden and Mattie Cosart and Match Hagemeyer; nephews, John (Amy) Ryder, Van Wert and Chad (Jessica) Brown, Ft. Wayne, IN; several, great nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Gerry Moser, Carthagena.

He is preceded in death by: sister, Sally Moser and grandson, Zane Cosart.

There will be a time of gathering for family and friends from 2 to 5 PM Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima.
