What great fun we had as teens growing up.  Jay was a perfectionist in most of what he did.  More than that, he was an amazing philosopher at 15.  Those who knew him would agree. We discovered that we were both crazy about girls at the same time.  That made it interesting and we went through many bottles of Listerine as a result.

When Jay died 9-25-01, I cried like a child having lost a boyhood friend. I was surprised by my reaction.

Dr. JAY EARL BEILHARZ, 57, of Dublin, formerly of Lima, died Sept 25, 2001, at Grant Medical Center.  He was born November 23, 1943, in Lima to Earl and Virginia Beilharz, who survive.  His wife of 34 years, Joyce Beilharz, survives

Dr Beilharz had been a family physician in Hilltop for 21 years.  He served as medical director for his practices at West Broad Medical Center and Cleveland Avenue Medical Center in Columbus.  He was affiliated with Ohio Health Hospitals, Doctors North, Doctors West and Grant Medical Center.  He was a faculty member at The Ohio State University and Ohio University.  During his career he was also the team physician for West High School football team.  He was on the credentialing committee for the State Osteopathic Association.  He interned as an acolyte for Christ Church Episcopal, Lima, for 12 years.  He was a member of the Macnnechor Society and sang in the men’s choir.  He received his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in microbiology and his medical degree from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a medic in biochemical warfare research.

Survivors also include a son, Jeremy Jakob Beilharz; a daughter, Monica Elise Beilharz; a sister, Terri (Peter) Wilkensen; and two nephews, Sean and Scott; and a niece, Shannon

Services will begin at 11:30am Saturday at Jerry Spears Funeral Home, Columbus.  Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Friday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief fund in honor of the World Trade Center Crisis, 995 East Broad St, Columbus, OH  43205
