Benny Ben W. Fetzer, 66, died at 9:30 p.m. April 29, 2010, at St. Ritas Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 22, 1943, in Lima to Orby and Lucille Alder Fetzer, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 10, 1968, he married Cheryl Powers, who survives in Lima. Mr. Fetzer worked for Teledyne Ohio Steel for 27 years, then worked for Lima Medical Supplies for 10 years. In retirement, he volunteered for St. Ritas Medical Center. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. He was a 1961 graduate of Lima Senior High School, and he worked the score board for Lima Central Catholic basketball games for 30 years and for Lima Senior High and Lima Central Catholic football games. He loved St. Rose and served on the parish council, Home and School Association, the choir, and coached the boys basketball team. He umpired girls softball. He loved his family, sports and loved Lima Central Catholic and Lima Senior high schools.
Survivors also include a son, Joe (Julie) Fetzer, of Pittsburgh; two daughters, Beth (John) Fetzer Rice and Jill Fetzer, both of Columbus; two grandchildren, Delaney and Liam Rice; and a brother, James (Betty) Alder. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Fetzer.
Services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose Catholic Church. Father David M. Ross will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
