SOUTHINGTON - Dennis Dale Orpurt, 67, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Hospice House after a battle with cancer.
He was born April 22, 1943, in Peru, Ind., the son of William Clarence Orpurt and Nellie Elizabeth Dawson. He moved to Southington from Lima, Ohio, in 1968.
Dennis served in the U.S. Navy on the USS WASP. He retired in 1998 from General Motors Corp. Lordstown Complex.
He was a member of the Leavittsburg Church of God and the American Legion Southington Post 751.
Dennis was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann Rasey Orpurt, whom he married July 20, 1968; his parents; his daughters, Sheryl A. (Nick) Orsini of Metamora, Ill., Dennise D. (Thomas) McKinney of Warren, Debra M. (Michael) Trunick of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Stephanie Ross of Southington; grandchildren, Joette and Laren Orsini, Sarah Orpurt, Lauren and Segan Trunick, Maranda Hoffman, and Kylie and Gavin Ross; siblings, Elizabeth Hunt of Wapakoneta, Mary Painter, and Phillip, Lenny and Robert Orpurt of Lima.
Preceding him in death are two sisters, Rebecca and Frances Orpurt.
Dennis has lived a life of caring and sharing with his family and friends. As a tribute to that life, he has chosen to participate in the NEOUCOM Donor Program for the advancement of medical research.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Leavittsburg Church of God with the Rev. Byron Powers officiating. Family and friends may call prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m.
Interment will occur at a later date in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown.
