NEWPORT BEACH,, CA – DOUGLAS ALAN TURNER

Douglas Alan Turner, 60, of Newport Beach, California, formerly of Lima, died March 11, 2004 at his residence after a long battle with bladder cancer.

He was a native of Lima. His wife, Loretta Turner, survives.

Mr. Turner was founder and owner of GT Styling, one of the leading automotive after market manufacturing companies, since 1980. He was a 1966 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in chemical engineering. He transferred with the Trane Heating and Air Conditioning Company to Southern California in 1970. He owned and raced sports and open-wheel formula cars for more than 37 years, holding numerous track and class records across the country. In 1983, on his 40th birthday he drove a Ferrari, along with a partner across the country from Manhattan New York to Newport Beach California in 32 hours and seven minutes, a cross-country record drive time that still stands. A documentary about his experiences and related racing stories is planned to air in the fall.

Survivors also include a sister, Carla Turner Fisher of Lima; and a niece and nephew.

Memorial services will begin at noon Monday at Pacific View Memorial Park Chapel, Corona del Mar, California. Burial will be in Kauai, Hawaii. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National ALS Association for research – 818-880-9007.
